Anosh Ahmed, MD shares how you should invest in your health: Losing weight can lead to many excellent benefits for your health. The risk of diabetes and high blood pressure goes down significantly, meaning less stress on your kidneys, heart, and liver. Lower body weight also puts less stress on your joints, leading to easier movement and less discomfort. Being more comfortable in your body can lead to better exercise outcomes. Eating a healthy diet remains one of the best ways to stay in good health. Your diet should mainly comprise whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables, with refined sugars and fats a smaller part of your caloric intake. Work on balancing your meals each day, and try not to overindulge in added sugars. Added sugars can lead to diabetes. Avoiding sugary sodas, coffee drinks, and energy drinks can help you to cut down on calories.
Dr. Anosh Ahmed obtained a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership before attending medical school. What is your biggest accomplishment? Getting my medical degree and being an actual, licensed physician has been a big accomplishment for me, but I also think just being able to have a stable family was more important. I look back at the fact that at the age of eight we were eating ten-cent cheeseburgers at McDonald’s and trying to make ends meet. Finding a way to stabilize the family home and for me to put my brothers through school and college meant so much. I think that’s probably my proudest achievement.
